Review for Book 3

What I drank prior: it’s mlk day and I got hammered.

Goodreads Overview:

The eagerly awaited sequel to the #1 New York Times bestselling Oathbringer, from epic fantasy author Brandon Sanderson

After forming a coalition of human resistance against the enemy invasion, Dalinar Kholin and his Knights Radiant have spent a year fighting a protracted, brutal war. Neither side has gained an advantage, and the threat of a betrayal by Dalinar’s crafty ally Taravangian looms over every strategic move.

Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin’s scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals, and potentially reveal the secrets of the ancient tower that was once the heart of their strength.

At the same time that Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with his changing role within the Knights Radiant, his Windrunners face their own problem: As more and more deadly enemy Fused awaken to wage war, no more honorspren are willing to bond with humans to increase the number of Radiants. Adolin and Shallan must lead the coalition’s envoy to the honorspren stronghold of Lasting Integrity and either convince the spren to join the cause against the evil god Odium, or personally face the storm of failure.

Drunk Overview: this is the 4th book in this series so if you don’t know what’s up already you gotta go…

So if you’re gone already you know that big tower city has been found and taken over by the humans. The singers are trying real hard to take it over. Crazy king guy is bonkers but we’re tryin real hard forgive him but we absolutely should not. Really this is so hard to explain.

Spoiler-free Thoughts: LOOK I’m stoked. I waited forever for this book and it was not a disappointment. Really excited by this book.

Characters: I really think if I were to go through each character it would be a list too long to comprehend. So. I’ll go through the ones I was psrticularly impressed by.

  • Shallan: this was such an incredible journey for her. Like, as someone who’s familiar with dissociative identity disorder aka multiple personalities I am super impressed with how Sanderson handled this. Real impressed with her journey
  • Kaladin: BRO, Dalinar is the best. He recognizes the pain and struggle that K is going through and does something about it. I’m really REALLY happy that this was addressed.
  • TEFT: TEFT
  • Dalinar: He’s got a lot going on and he’s got a stubborn spren bonded with him but he still does everything he can to be right. Even if it’s go and talk to a mad mad mad Herald.
  • Navani is the fucking best
  • Adolin… he’s my fave fave ever.

Plot: it’s Sanderson so we’ve got 1800 pages of plot that leads to incredible endings that you have no idea they’re coming. It’s slow. I’m not saying it’s fast, but like… UGH it’s so good.

Writing Style: it’s brando sando

World Building: there are so many crossover things that are about to happen. Lift’s thing with Breath and Navani’s experiments with metals. I literally canNOT wait. I need more immediately. WHERE’RE MY MISTBORN KIDS?!?!?

What to pair it with: rose. A complicated flavor pallet that will leave you questioning every life choice you’ve ever made

Rating: 5/5
