DRUNK REVIEW: Head On by John Scalzi

Head On by John Scalzi

What I drank prior: Went on a Wine bus and drank everything. I’m missing about an hour of the evening but I think I’m back? I hope I remember writing this.

Spoiler-free Overview:
We pick up this story with our two faves, Chris and Vann, our crazy FBI agents. In the world of Haden’s syndrome and threeps, a new sport has emerged. Basically rugby on steroids (I know) and torn off robot heads. Yeah I know it’s hard to explain but there it is. ANYWAY, since it’s robots and not humans, there’s little risk of injury. Except t someone died in the game. GASP! New case for the fbi, new conspiracies and STUFF.

Spoiler-free Thoughts:
LOVE THESE BOOKS! We had the opportunity to have a reading from Scalzi on his tour here in DC. Which is pretty great cause these books are set in DC. This book is just so fun.

Characters:They are amazing. Chris’s gender is not identified in either book and I just go back and forth on how I see them. It really depends on the situation and what’s said. Vann is amazing. Vann is one of the best characters I’ve read, honestly.

Plot:seriously kept me on my toes. Fast paced and amazing as usual.

World Building:I mean, this world is like… post post apocalyptic. Right? When we think post apocalyptic we think deserts, lack of resources, etc. but then society builds again, and there’s some semblance of ‘normal’ again. That’s this. It’s awesome.

What to pair it with:A good, nice, refreshing beer. We asked Scalzi what to pair it with and he signed my book saying “rum, a chicken, and several salty looks” which still makes me giggle.

Rating: 5/5 shots

COMMENT DOWN BELOW:What are some good books set in your hometowns?

Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
Sam
