Hey book lovers!

I found this amazing booktag on YouTube made by Shelby over at Read and Find Out.

I am a huge huge fan of The Cosmere universe created by His Holiness Brandon Sanderson. As soon as I saw this tag I knew I had to do it. So, let’s get started!

1. Elantris: Name a book where magic fails it’s people

 The Tangled Lands by Paolo Bacigalupi and Tobias S. Buckell

I adored this book. It’s a series of short stories that are all in the same world. As folk use magic, this vine-like plant called the brambles. Each short story is compelling and well rounded and I loved it. I have a drunk review here.

 

 

2. Mistborn: fave ragtag gang

The Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan

If you don’t already know – these are like… my favorite books. Royce and Hadrian are amazing. Their banter is insane. They pick up and drop off a couple of folk in their squad over the series but they’re sort of the core team. And I love them so much.

 

 

3. Warbreaker: interesting family dynamic

And I Darken by Kiersten White

Phew. This series man. It’s a Vlad the Impaler retelling with a gender-swapped main character named Lada. She and her brother are given to the ottoman emperor as hostages where they grow up with one of the princes. Both she and her brother fall in love with the prince. The brother gets conflicted about his loyalties and it’s really really complicated. I have drunk reviews for book 1 and book 2. I cannot wait to get to book 3.

 

 

4. Stormlight Archive: longest book you’ve ever read, and longest on your TBR

Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson

Welp. Sound about right for the Cosmere book tag.

 

 

 

5. Alloy Era: series continuation (prequel/sequel) you didn’t like as much as the original

Ruin of Stars by Linsey Miller

Sigh. I LOVED the first book in this series. Mask of Shadows was amazing. Gender fluid main character, awesome assassin training, great plot. Book 2 was HORRIBLE. Plot holes, broken magic systems, poorly edited, it was just so bad.

6. White Sand: underdog you root for

I literally went through my Read shelf on Goodreads and I can only think of Neville Longbottom. I know it’s a cop out. But I just… can’t think of anything better. I’m a disaster.

7. Arcanum Unbounded: fave anthology

THE DOCTOR WHO ONE. Obviously.

8. Investiture: coolest magic system

Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks

Oh man. This series is so good. I am dying for the last book. The magic system is so cool, it’s all based off of color/light. Each color in the spectrum has different capabilities and like Mistborn most people only use one, but there is ONE Prism who is basically a king, that can use all the colors. ITS SO GOOD I NEED THE LAST ONE.

 

9. Shadesmar: book with alternate realms

Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (completed by Brandon Sanderson)

I know this is probably cheating again, but they have the dream world that is a LONG word that starts with T. This is one of the greatest fantasy series of all time. I know I’ve said that a lot in this post but damn. *raises fist* It’s just so. good.
