Ruin of Stars by Linsey Miller

**I received an advanced copy through a twitter giveaway. I’d like to thank Brittany from BookRambles, Sourcebooks, and Linsey for the opportunity. This book comes out on Aug 28th and you can get it here.**

What I drank prior: A bottle of wine and 3 beers woo!

Spoiler-free Overview:
This is a sequel so there will be some spoilers for book 1. My review for Mask of Shadows is here. So Sal is Opal and they still have their list and things are happening like kids are being stolen and we gotta stop it.

Spoiler-free Thoughts:
I was not super impressed with this. I can’t tell if it’s cause it hasn’t gone through final editing but I just felt confused through the whole thing.

Characters: while I was excited that Linsey explained gender fluidity better and we got to know some of the side characters better, I was sad to see that our main person, Sal didn’t get to grow as much as I wanted them to.

Plot: the plot was fine. Good pacing and suspenseful.

Writing Style: this is where I struggled. I felt like there was this intention of the reader filling in the gaps but it was executed poorly. Like, they’d have some dialogue and the narrative would say “oh, THAT’S why” but not enough explainatipn to allow me to get to the point? Idk. It was a struggle.

World Building: I STILL DONT GET IT. Where did the Shadows come from? Why is this happening? What the actual fuck is going on? Help me.

What to pair it with: A light beer. It gets you where you’re supposed to be but you’re not happy about it.

Rating: 2/5 shots

COMMENT DOWN BELOW: Have you ever been super disappointed by a duology’s conclusion?

Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
Sam
