DRUNK REVIEW: The Housekeepers by Alex Hay

What I drank prior: so i drank a bunch cause it made sense. But also cause I’d burnt out when it comes to my life. I try really hard to keep everything separate and i do except when I’m fucking everything up with my drunkenness… I’ve had a lot to drink

I think the worst part is that we’re so drunk that we’re worried about things like the heat and while us sci-fi folk think that’s easy and predictable due to you know… science, us normal people think it’s fine. (Sober note: what the hell?)

Goodreads Overview:

The night of London’s grandest ball, a bold group of women downstairs launch a daring revenge heist against Mayfair society in this dazzling historical novel about power, gender, and class.

Mrs. King is no ordinary housekeeper. Born into a world of con artists and thieves, she’s made herself respectable, running the grandest home in Mayfair. The place is packed with treasures, a glittering symbol of wealth and power, but dark secrets lurk in the shadows.

When Mrs. King is suddenly dismissed from her position, she recruits an eclectic group of women to join her in revenge: A black market queen out to settle her scores. An actress desperate for a magnificent part. A seamstress dreaming of a better life. And Mrs. King’s predecessor, with her own desire for vengeance.

Their plan? On the night of the house’s highly anticipated costume ball—set to be the most illustrious of the year—they will rob it of its every possession, right under the noses of the distinguished guests and their elusive heiress host. But there’s one thing Mrs. King wants even more than money: the truth. And she’ll run any risk to get it…

After all, one should never underestimate the women downstairs.

Drunk Overview: idk what else to say except this is oceans eleven meets downton Abby and that’s dope.

Spoiler-free Thoughts: this book was awesome. I read i in one sitting… and by one sitting i dont mean i read it in a day in food and other breaks i mean i read it in one sitting.

This book kept me so captivated that i cared little for what was going on in my personal life

Characters: there were so many so let me try any keep them all in tact

  • Alice – her hole thing didn’t make a lot of sense. I wanted her to care and i think Alicer wanted to care but she choked and… that didnt’ make a lot of sense to me
  • Mrs Bone was my absolute fave cause i got her. I understood her motivation and it was great cause its hard to accept those realitities whe you’re a boss
  • The Janes… its hard to descibe them but they’re the hero’s of everything and no one seems to get that
  • Winne… my most beloved
  • and then Mrs. King the mastermind of it all. The Danny Ocean

– about 2 days later – drunk again… haha sorry

i don’t think a dude could write such a good story… i know that’s biased but it’s my experience so here we are

But, this dude literally went to school for and wrote a dissertation about women in this time and i think he made a good effort to make tha point. It’s just hard to do that at the moment. Especially given the content that exists

So sorry friends I’m really trying…

Plot: this is actually ocean’s 11 meets Bridgerton and I wish I had more to say but it don’t lol. Except for maybe that the author does a good job keeping us in the dark just enough to keep us interested. What’s the motive? How are they going to do this? So very confused but can’t stop

What to pair it with: fancy vodka cocktail

Rating: 3/5

Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
Sam
