What I drank prior: iiiiiits game night? I had two pretty stiff cocktails and a half a bottle of wine. Did we win? 100%. Was it amazing? Yes. Are we doing it again tomorrow? A;so yes.
Goodreads Overview:
A budding dark sorceress determined not to use her formidable powers uncovers yet more secrets about the workings of her world in the stunning sequel to A Deadly Education, the start of Naomi Novik’s groundbreaking crossover series.
At the Scholomance, El, Orion, and the other students are faced with their final year–and the looming specter of graduation, a deadly ritual that leaves few students alive in its wake. El is determined that her chosen group will survive, but it is a prospect that is looking harder by the day as the savagery of the school ramps up. Until El realizes that sometimes winning the game means throwing out all the rules . .
Drunk Overview: this is the sequel to A Deasly Education, a book I didn’t think I’d love but I 100% did. Our main squeeze Elle is in her senior year and she basically broke the school last year. She and her two bffs and her (not)bf Orion are just trying to get to graduation and not die. The school is trying to get them. Her new schedule makes it seem like the school is out to get her in psrticular. So.. That’s basically it.
Spoiler-free Thoughts: I’ll just say that the audiobooks are incredible. This book did not disappoint.
Characters: ok so, I fell like our main lady is just… such a martyr lol. She’s got martyr syndrome and is very angry that she feels that way. I also think that her and Orion are sort of perfect because they both hate that they love each other. And they’re both like “omygawd I’m gonna sacrifice myself for you” “nut uhhhhhh I’m gonna sacrifice myself for YOU’ and it’s frustrating but also really cute. Yes it’s toxic but I can like it in fiction, fight me. The actual best part of this book are the side characters. The two best friends and the others they make along they way are so grounded that I canNOT stand it and Elle needs it very badly. I love them
Plot: I wasn’t really sure how this boo was gonna go. And like Ginny said this book had major fuck you vibrs like fuck you Novik for that goddamn cliffhanger. Everything else was a bit slow it seemed leading up to that point but I am NOT mad about it.
Writing Style: its Novik.
World Building: we actually didn’t get much world building in this because we didn’t need it. We will next book but we didn’t need it here.
What to pair it with: an amber ale. Don’t ask why it’s just a feeling.
Rating: 5/5
