What I drank prior: I’ve had a whole damn bottle of wine plus…. I haven’t been drunk in a while but i needed it and Ginny obliged me. I ALSO GOT A BRAND NEW KITTY!!!

Goodreads Overview:

A door opens. An army of dragons advance. And the fate of the living rests with the dead.

After obtaining the secret to creating dragons, the leader of the Fhrey has turned the tide of war once more—but gaining the advantage has come at a terrible price. While Imaly plots to overthrow the fane for transgressions against his people, a mystic and a keeper are the only hope for the Rhunes. Time is short, and the future of both races hangs in the balance. In this exciting conclusion to the Legends of the First Empire series, the Great War finally comes to a climactic end, and with it dawns a new era in the Age of Empyre.

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Michael J. Sullivan comes the concluding installment of his six-book epic fantasy. This series chronicles a pivotal point in Elan’s history when humans and those they once saw as gods warred until a new world order was born. Set three thousand years before the Riyria tales, Legends is a standalone fantasy series that is independent of the Riyria novels. But for those who do read both series, Legends will unmask lies and reveal the truth about Elan’s history and the men and women who shaped what the world became.

Drunk Overview: This is the last book in a series so while i hope you haven’t gotten this far without having read the others here is your warning. This is literally a finale so I’m not gonna hold back.

look, we end the lsat one with our faves falling down into the pit of dispairyujhzuiza I’m so sorry, my new kitten decided she wanted to write a review herselt but she has read the book so i dont think shd be any good. ANYWAY

the pit of despair and they still have a mission. Persephone’s got her own issues with literal actual dragons who aren’t Raithe on their way.

Also Suri si captured with the elves and that’s really not good. BUT ITS THE END OF THE WORLD

Spoiler-free Thoughts: Lisqaten, I know it doesn’t seem like this is rare but it totally is, I audibly gasped at least twice in this book.

Characters: I just… There are so many characters… here are my thought (Sober note: seems like I was planning on doing bullets for each character but I didn’t, weirdly)

These characters each have an arc of their own. Not a single one has an arc that feels unfullfulled. I am so prou d of all of them. Each of my kids make choices that I am proud of, despite their previous choices….

Plot: I AM SO MAD but also so happy with how things end. There are a couple of stories that we’ve got going on but each are told in the most respectful and honest way. I know it seems super weird for me to say that but if feels incredibly honest the way the story is told from a journalistic perspective. I had some trouble with the way certain things ended… felt a bit too easy, but hey, my drunk ass can’t judge…

Writing Style: I will read this man’s grocery list. I want to say I don’t have a favorite author…. but he’s probably my fave author in a world where that HP author and Brandon Sanderson exist… am I a heathen? I’m probably a heathen..

World Building: GIVE ME MORE YOU COWARD

What to pair it with: This is a golden ale. A story that will fuck you up in the smoothest way…

Rating: 5/5 shots

Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
Sam
