That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming

Reviewed by Sam!

What I drank prior: it’s Moira’s birthday!!! And We spent a lot of time at the pool today and then we went to the party and drank everything so basically I’ve been drinking since noon and it’s 12:30am so… I doubt I’ll remember I wrote this review (Sober note: I don’t.)

Drunk Overview: So… How do i explain this book. So basically our babe Cinnamon was on her way home from the bar and she accidentally saves this dude and come to find out he’s a demon and the spice Cinnamon (not her) is like… the antidote for making demons not actually demons and they go on this journey to free them all. And there’s a lot of bangin.

Spoiler-free Thoughts: So, while I’d usually spend some time with either characters or plot or world building… i think they all are intertwined enough to Buckley ever ything

  • So… I liked this a lot. I think I liked most about the sexual journey that Cinnamon goes through. She’s not a virgin but she’s mostly only had vanilla sex but our demon friend teaches her in a way that is both consensual AND sexy AND what she wants its awesome.
  • So while this is a fantasy story that has an actual plot, it feels very video game-y. Like…
  • Boss 1 is in one town and boss 2 is in another and big boss is in the last, but I wasn’t mad about it ever. I cared too much about the characters for it to matter.
  • Before I get to our leading folk (and i say folk intentionally), I want to talk about the peolpe they pick up on the way
  • Like.. in a book that’s basically intended to be BDSM fantasy porn, I didn’t expect to care so much about the people they didn’t have sex with and i totally did
  • I picked up this book for the title and the title alone. I don’t think anyone will fault me for that, but it was actually great.
  • BUT THEN
  • There are the main characters and they just are both hilarious and sexy and have chemistry and made sense. Just… i thought ‘id have more to say but I dont
  • they’re fab.
  • Basically, if you pick this up cause of the title, i wont blame you, but if you think this book is a joke, and not an actual legitimate romance novel you’d be entirely wrong.

What to pair it with: Red REd RED wine

Rating: 4/5
