DRUNK REVIEW: Oculta by Maya Motayne (A Forgery of Magic #2)

Oculta by Maya Motayne (A Forgery of Magic #2)

Review for Book 1!

What I drank prior: so… I won a proposal I shouldn’t have been worried about but I was because if we’d lost we’d have lost all our business so of course I was worried but we WON so I drank everything in sight… don’t judge me… please.

Drunk Overview: so this is the sequel to Nocturna so if you haven’t read that one then……. Sucks to suck

But for real I loved this. The first one left us with and ending but not an ending and this one took off from there.

Spoiler-free Thoughts:

Characters: Our main lady is on her way to being her normal criminal self but how could she do that with what she’s been through. And then our man… he’s responsible for all this death and is feeling all of that as one would expect. I’m literally and intentionally not saying whether I agree with his culpability. I like their relationship a lot, but also don’t. The angst is there, but I think the will-they won’t-they went on toooooooo long. Also, the villain was kinda boring, but the mystery of it was nice. The cousin was cool too, i likd his conflict and how he coped with working through that.

Plot: I did like the plot of this a lot. But i’ll be honest, i don’t really remember a lot about it, just that I liked it. The former conquerors were there too, and Alfie was doing his best to try and make a peace deal with them but also wanting to not let them get away with their terrible policies and governance. So there was that too.

Writing Style: I REALLY like the way they incorporate spanish in to this story. It felt so natural and I loved it

World Building: Nothing new here

What to pair it with: This felt like a beer, like a good golden ale.

Rating: 3/5
