The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

Reviewed by Sam!

What I drank prior: Ginny and I were trying out a new cocktail for my Christmas Eve party and they were…. very strong. I had two… but they each had at least 3 shots in them.

Goodreads Overview:

He will be destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.

Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold onto. Jude learned this lesson when she released her control over the wicked king, Cardan, in exchange for immeasurable power.

Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan’s betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her deceptive twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril.

Jude must risk venturing back into the treacherous Faerie Court, and confront her lingering feelings for Cardan, if she wishes to save her sister. But Elfhame is not as she left it. War is brewing. As Jude slips deep within enemy lines she becomes ensnared in the conflict’s bloody politics.

And, when a dormant yet powerful curse is unleashed, panic spreads throughout the land, forcing her to choose between her ambition and her humanity…

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black, comes the highly anticipated and jaw-dropping finale to The Folk of the Air trilogy.

Spoiler-free Overview: This is the finale to Holly’s Black’s fae series. This WILL have spoilers for the rest of the series, so if you haven’t read them, please for the love of god don’t read this.

Ok… non-spoilery people gone? Cool. Ok Cardan was an asshat and married Jude only to banish her from Fairy. She is ROYALLY pissed off. Obviously. Anyway, Jude is in the human world, boiling with rage, when Taryn shows up and is all “my husband is dead…” and she asks her to go to Fairy and pretend to be her to avoid the inquiry. She goes back, Cardan knows immediately (obviously), she gets kidnapped by her dad and everything goes from there.

Spoiler-free Thoughts: Guy.s I wanted to hate this. I really did, but good LORD I loved it. Even though their entire relationship is fucked up, and I mean… really fucked up, i love them. This was actually a fab conclusion to this series.

Characters: Ok… did I forget to mention… JUDE AND CARDEN ARE TOXIC TOGETHER. He’s a shithead, she is SUPER dumb. SUPER. But, for whatever reason, the relationshops are amazing. Maddoc is still a shit too. But damn… the interactions seem so incredibly realistic. of COURSE shes gonna be wary of him, he FUCKING BANISHED HER FROM FAIRY, but like, what he does to earn her trust back… sigh. I needed it. Idk why I neeeded it but I did. Also, the sea-lady…. MY HEART

Plot: THe plot in this was actually not as great as the last one, but it was the character development that got us. The ending was a bit predictable, but I didn’t even care.

Writing Style: There are few people on this planet that can make me love a relationship as much as Holly Black can. And only because she KNOWS WHAT SHES DOING. Some of the lines in this are physically painful they are so good.

World Building: We don’t get much more here actually, but there it is.

What to pair it with: What’s a drink you hate that you love so much? Idk about you guys, but I really do like vodka redbulls. They are so sweet and they will fuck you UP. Kinda like Jude and Cardan

Rating: 3.5/5 Shots

COMMENT DOWN BELOW: Anyone else hate that they love these?

Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
