Ignite the Stars by Maura Milan
**We picked up a copy of this at BookCon this year and want to thank Maura and Albert Whitman & Company for the opportunity to read and review early. This book comes out on September 4th and you can get it here**
What I drank prior: A bottle and a half of wine. So my story goes, i needed reviews but no actual excuse to drink. So I started drinking and then I found To All the Boys I Loved Before on Netflix and came up with a game. Technically I was alone but Parker was on Skype so…
Spoiler-free Overview: ok so, starts with main character Ia, notorious space pirate and infamous criminal is captured. Instead of being put to death she’s sent to military training with Brin and Knives (yes his name is Knives). You can see how it goes from there. She’s trying to plot her escape while inevitably making friends of her enemies.
Spoiler-free Thoughts: I thought this books was great. Seriously sign me up for the series.
Characters: super well rounded and driven for their own personal reasons. This is not a single POV story so you get to understand what the other characters are thinking. Not repetitive in any way and each POV moves the plot along. And speaking of the plot…
Plot: balanced. It was never slow at all. I kinda fingued certain characters would do certain things but I was still super engaged.
World Building: a story where everything was plausible but still somehow new? It was wonderful to see!!
What to pair it with: I feel like rum is the right answer here. Only cause pirates….
Rating: 3.99/5 shots
COMMENT DOWN BELOW: Someone gimmie their fave space pirate book!
Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
Sam
