What I drank prior: its the state of the union and i got drunk on my own but not so drunk i can’t function, which means I’ll be able to write a few reviews tonight. Yes. I am whoring out my intoxication and providing several reviews off one bout of insobriety. Sue me.
Goodreads Overview:
‘Tis the season for a Bromance Book Club matchmaking mission! This time, they’re pulling out the mistletoe for everyone’s favorite country music star, Colton, and his second chance at love.
Country music’s golden boy Colton Wheeler felt the most perfect harmony when he was with Gretchen Winthrop. But for her, it was a love him and leave him situation. A year later, Colton is struggling to push his music forward in a new direction. If it weren’t about to be the most magical time of year and the support of the Bromance Book Club, he’d be wallowing in self-pity.
It’s hard for immigration attorney Gretchen not to feel a little Scrooge-ish about the excess of Christmas when her clients are scrambling to afford their rent. So when her estranged, wealthy family reaches out with an offer that will allow her to better serve the community, she’s unable to say no. She just needs to convince Colton to be the new face of her family’s whiskey brand. No big deal…
Colton agrees to consider Gretchen’s offer in exchange for three dates before Christmas. With the help of the Bromance Book Club, Colton throws himself into the task of proving to her there’s a spark between them. But Gretchen and Colton will both need to overcome the ghosts of Christmas past to build a future together.
Drunk Overview: this is the latest book in the Bromance series. This is about the country singer and one of the gal pals from the coffee shop. The nice part is that they bang in like the first chapter at the Russian’s wedding, but she walks out the next morning without a word and it really throws Colton off. He’s completely thrown off, so much that his music career is on the fritz. Gretchen is the family black sheep and for whatever reason she doesn’t want to be with Colton, but when her family offers her a coveted seat on the foundation if she can get Colton to be the face of the brand… he’s thrown back in her way and things go from there.
Spoiler-free Thoughts: This series is just such a joy. And I’m not even a romance reader. I just love these characters a lot and this one is just as good. Maybe not my favorite though… idk. I’m trying to remember the others. There was the first one, marriage reigniting. two was… pastry chef sex perv pursuit. 3 – besties. 4 is the Russian. So yes, it’s. Not my fave but not my least fave either…
Characters: ok so… the two main leads. There’s Colton who is actually a cinnamon roll. He has no flaws in this book at all. Someone prove me wrong. And then there’s Gretchen who is relateable. not in a “black sheep of the family” way cause that’s not me, but the whole “my career matters.” I can’t stand how much i relate to that. SO anyway. I love them. And I love the side characters, who we mostly already know and love. All our faves are back, and they’re still all hilarious and awesome.
Plot: so the nice part of this plot is that there isn’t really a conflict between the two of them. The conflict of this book is external. And boy do i love that in a story. I literally hate when any problem in a book can be solved by having a damn conversation…
Writing Style: nothing to say here that i haven’t already said
World Building: This part of this particular series is trying to figure out who the next two people for the series will be. I can’t actually figure it out…
What to pair it with: This is like spiked egg nog. Obviously.
Rating: 4/5 shots
