Weekly Wrap-Up: May 30 – June 5, 2022

Happy Monday, Boozie Book Nerds!

Friendly reminder that not all lives can matter until black lives do.

Minda’s Update

What Minda is reading now

  • Extasia by Claire Legrand – “Her name is unimportant. All you must know is that today she will become one of the four saints of Haven. The elders will mark her and place the red hood on her head. With her sisters, she will stand against the evil power that lives beneath the black mountain—an evil which has already killed nine of her village’s men.”

What Minda Finished:

  • The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown – “The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of ’36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys’ gold medal race.”

Sam’s Update

I’m at Mama’s for Memorial Day and I had a great day with my cousins and their kids. Not all my ducklings (my cousins’ kids) were there but that was alright.

What Sam Finished:

  • Dark Matter by Blake Crouch – I’m this book, Jason is living a good life in Chicago with his wife and kid when all of a sudden he gets kidnapped by what seems like himself and sent to a parallel world. All he wants is to find his way home but he keeps ending up in the wrong world. This was a reread for me, and it still fucks me up every time,

What Sam is Currently Reading:

  • Castles in their Bones by Laura Sebastian – in this book, there are triplet sisters being sent off to marry in to other kingdoms. They’ve been trained for one thing, to cause chaos so that their mother can take over the continent. I’m not very far in to this yet but I love this author so much so…
