It’s your girl Linz, and this week’s Top Ten is book covers, focus is your choice–so I’m doing pretty book covers for pretty people ❤

If you think you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, you’re a damn liar. We’ve all bought a book because it’s pretty, and have likely even lied about how good the book was because we wanted to justify it. I’m as guilty of it as the next person, but these are books I stand by with a clear conscience of good taste.

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee: My mom bought this for me, oh lord, like SO long ago. It’s a little embarrassing that I haven’t read it at this point, but it’s such an intimidating size (name of your sex tape). IT IS SO GORGEOUS. I think my mom bought it on recommendation from a book seller, but probably because she also thought it was pretty. I ain’t mad at it. (I know there are multiple covers for this book, but this is the one I have and this is the one I stan.)

The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones: I think I’m a little biased because I have an ARC of the original AND the special edition cover from Owlcrate, and it’s one of the few times where I really loved how close but different the covers were. (You can see both on our Insta) (Also review here)

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton: A gorgeous cover for a gorgeous book. This is the kind of shit you want to cosplay, even if only 5 people will clock you at the con. Review here.

The Beholder by Anna Bright: This is kind of a wild case where I adored the cover, but I swear to god I read it for the plot…and honestly was disappointed. It was super pretty for Insta though!

 

The Night Circus and The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern: This is a two-for-one. I only sought out her books because of the hype (which for me, completely held up), but the covers are nothing to look down on. (And I know there’s another version of The Night Circus cover that’s equally beautiful.) BTW, having read a hard copy of The Starless Sea: a. worth it, so much gorgeous page art! b. page art is actually helpful in following the book’s threads. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: I *almost* bought the hardover because I’m fancy like that, but girrrrl the paperback has gold foil detail and like the magpie I am, SHINY THINGS. (And we’ve got a review here.)

Followers by Megan Angelo: Does this or does this not scream millenial aesthetic? Perfect artwork, given the plot.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman: There are a LOT of covers for this AMAAAAAAZING book, but this one’s my favorite. I think it captures the moodiness and desolation of the book’s atmosphere, and also it’s one of the covers that came before this repackaging bullshit of American Gods and Anansi Boys as a “series” with the American Gods follow-up. STUPID RETCONS.

That Inevitable Victorian Thing by E.K. Johnston: This is the kind of shit you frame in your house for when you finally part ways with movie posters and a van Gogh print. (Also, review here.)

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon: HELL YES DRAGONS. This is a book I always felt guilty not reviewing because it is FIVE. STARS. AMAZING. I think it was just a combo of exhaustion and a lot to unpack plotwise. It’s also 800+ pages but it’s just phenomenal. Also dragons.
