The Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski
What I drank prior: So I’ve had quite a bit to drink. My manfriend left on some expedition and I’m here. Alone. And drinking with my best friends. Doing the emo thing.
Spoiler-free Overview: So, basically this chick is part of the ‘winning’ culture. They’ve come and colonized this world, Haran. She is privileged. She is noble. She had everything she wants. Except, there’s a boy slave who catches her attention. He’s Harani. He changes everything. He changes the way she thinks about the world. The way she thinks about colonization in general. Things happen.
Characters: I really loved these characters. Like. They are all so well ducking developed I can’t.
- Kestral: She’s one of the best female heroines I think I’ve ever read. SHe’s not like.. SUPER STRONG SUPER BADASS BECAUSE SHES A HERO. No, she’s a hero because sh’es smart. She uses her fucking brain. AND, she grows as the series foes on.
- Arin: Man, so. Ugh, how do i even begin to describe my love for this character. He’s just so good, and so… flawed… and so… just wonderful. and THE TWO TOGETHER? they’re the best
Supporting cast was great, I didn’t really care for the Eastern empress… queen? whatever she is. BUt i literally loved all the other characters. I love me a good villain and this one was awesome.
Plot: So, th plot was good, but for me this was more about the characters. I listened to these on audio so for me the plot never slowed down. Really, just exceptional.
What to pair it with: This is a red wine series. Its elegant and classy, but its also delicious.
Rating: The whole series 4.5/5 shots
COMMENT DOWN BELOW: I know I’m way behind! What else should I get to that I haven’t yet?
Until next time, I remain forever drunkenly yours,
