Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Reviewed by Sam!
What I drank prior: Buncha cocktails. honestly, this is the third review I’ve written tonight. I’m tired and drunk. But I GOTTA get this done before I forget what happened.
Goodreads Overview:
Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight—she’s a Graceling, one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme skill. As niece of the king, she should be able to live a life of privilege, but Graced as she is with killing, she is forced to work as the king’s thug.
She never expects to fall in love with beautiful Prince Po.
She never expects to learn the truth behind her Grace—or the terrible secret that lies hidden far away . . . a secret that could destroy all seven kingdoms with words alone.
With elegant, evocative prose and a cast of unforgettable characters, debut author Kristin Cashore creates a mesmerizing world, a death-defying adventure, and a heart-racing romance that will consume you, hold you captive, and leave you wanting more.
Spoiler-free Overview: Ok, in this world, some folks are “graced” with something. Painting, singing, art, whatever. Katza is graced in murder. Naturally the king uses her for evil. In the background, she has a council that she uses her powers for good. On a rescue mission, she runs into a dude who ends up showing up at her home who is graced in fighting. Anywho, they go on an adventure. (Editor’s Note: It’s clear I listened to these because I spell every character’s name wrong… my bad)
Spoiler-free Thoughts: WHY DIDNT I READ THESE BEFORE?! I am seriously behind the times. The audiobook is fully casted with sound effects and everything. It’s pretty dope.
Characters: Katza is such a great character. Flawed, yet relatable. Poe is precious to me and my soul. THe bad guys are also super bad. I LOVE that there’s this one guy that’s like “i’ll marry you… and someday you’ll want kids” NO BITCH. As somoene who deosnt want to gett married or have kids, I loathe when people say that to me. If I were her, id kill him just for the sake of it and call it an accident. shrug.gif.
Plot: There was never a dull moment. Even the moments that were supposed to be dull were filled with such amazing character development, I could read this forever. The kid too, she’s cool AF.
Writing Style: I’m gonna talk about the audio style cause that’s what I cared about. I LOVED that each character had their own voice. In other fully casted audiobooks, they have the POV say the voices, Nope. In this one each time a character talks its in their voice and the narrator is another one. I lved it.
World Building: I need to knw more. SO MUCH MORE. THank god there are two more books.
What to pair it with: A jagerbomb. First, you get the beer and then all of a sudden you get the shot, and then the beer again. SOrta like the narrators =).
Rating: 3.75/5 Shots
