Ia Cōcha never thought she’d be working for the Olympus Commonwealth. But that was before she found out her trusted brother Einn was trying to tear apart the universe. Now, Ia, the Blood Wolf of the Skies, has agreed to help the Royal Star Force on one condition: when she finds him, she gets to kill Einn herself.
Brinn Tarver has just come to terms with her Tawny identity when the public lashes out against her people, crushing her family. At her breaking point, she starts to question everything she believes in—including Ia.
After the death of his mentor, Knives Adams is doing his best to live up to a role he didn’t ask for as Aphelion’s new headmaster. Still, with each new step deeper into war, he feels torn between his duties and the pull of Ia’s radical—sometimes criminal—ideas.
As they fight to keep darkness from eclipsing the skies, their unpredictable choices launch this breathtaking sequel to explosive new heights.
What I drank prior: A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Parker was here. We watched Mad Men and Schitts Creek and I am so so happy. And drunk.
Spoiler-free Overview: This is the sequel toIgnite the Stars so ig you haven’t read that check the DRUNK REVIEW right here. I loved book 1. It was a pleasant surprise for me. O was not expecting to love it so much and then I did.
So here we are in book2, Ia and Knives are at the Academy after her brother’s brutal attack. Trying to figure life out. When they realize that there really isn’t enough infrastructure to sustain them, so they leave to go to another academy. THE MOTHER FUCKING DAY they get there, Einn (broski) attacks, leaving Ia basically on death’s door. The story goes they goota save the universe.
Spoiler-free Thoughts: I absolutely loved this. I devoured it in a few days max. idk what it is about Maura’s story that keeps me so entrhalled but I am here for it and I need more ASAP.
Characters: Our characters have been and continue to be well rounded. I can only think of one character who doesn’t have a well rounded back story (removed for spoilers), but otherwise they are all my children and I protec
Plot: It has moments of slowness, but that was completely intentional and required. It gave the characters a bit of time to breathe. A bit of time to compose themselves before the end of the goddamn universe. I had one moment where I turned to Ginny and was like…. “she gonna [do the stupid thing]” and then she did the stupdi thing and said “that’s scifi 101 babe, don’t [do the stupid thing]” but it was actually kinda funny? now that I think about it.
Writing Style: It’s not anything ultra poetic but it did the job. I couldn’t put t down.
World Building: We added a few new cool elements to the world that didn’t take away from, rather added to it. I enjoyed them quite a bit.
What to pair it with: A bloody red wine. Like a Zin – super dark but also delicious.
Rating: 4/5 Shots
