What I drank prior: So the golden globes were a thing. I drank a bunch cause Ginny told me to. THANKS GINNY.

Spoiler-free Overview:
hoooookay. So in this world there are mysterious ExtraOrdinaries or EOs, like x-men. We’ve got two nemesis, Victor and Eli. They are both EOs. They are…. nemesis, that feels a lot like they love each other and hate each other at the same time. They’re obsessed. The whole story is them trying to kill each other. They also have friends/children/sidekicks that help ’em out.

Spoiler-free Thoughts:
I wish that I could show my face to show how much I love these books. Here’s my attempt at a gif.

Eh I’m drunk I’ll figure it out in the morning. (Editor’s note: Sober Sam even had trouble with that one… but seems like it works now.)

Characters: ok. Okokok. All of these characters are morally gray. It’s amazing. They’re all such shit people. Eli and Victor are both villains and they take everyone down with them. I fucking love it. I love that Victor knows he’s a bad guy. I know some people have an issue with Eli’s religious fervor but if that don’t make villains in this day and age idk what does. It seems relevant to me.

Plot: Super fast paced. It goes back and forth in timelines and I love it when books do that well. And this one did it well.

Writing Style: Schwab’s writing is always killer. And like others I feel like her writing has gotten worse not better over the years. Since this is in the beginning for her, it’s exceptional.

World Building: I cannot wait for more.

What to pair it with: tequila. It’s the only choice.

Rating: 5/5 shots

COMMENT DOWN BELOW: What did you guys think of this one? There was some debate among the bookclub about it.

Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
Sam
