The Queen of the Tearling and The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

What I drank prior: a bottle of rose on a shitty day.

Spoiler-free Overview: uh. So this is two book review but the book 1 overview is that Our Queen Kelsey has finally come of the age to take her throne. After her mother’s death and in her absence, Uncle Asshole has been ruining shit. Mama made a deal with the neighboring queendom and the Red Queen, to give actual humans as security against invasion. Part 1 is Kelsey getting back to the capital and Part 2 is figuring out how to fix her mom and Uncle’s mess.

Spoiler-free Thoughts book 1ALL HAIL KELSEY RALEIGH, QUEEN OF THE TEARLING

Spoiler-free Thoughts book 2: the fuck did you just do Kelsey Raleigh, Queen of the Tearling?

Characters: faves in order –

  • Pen, my precious son and protector. He’s so wonderful.
  • Kelsey, my flawed Queen only trying to do what’s best for her people and be a fucking adult god dammit.
  • Mace😍😍, HEART EYES marrymepleasethanks
  • FATHER TYLER, he’s so cute I just want to hug him
  • ******BOOK 2******** Lily. Nuff said.

Plot: for both books the plot was well-paced. I loved the addition of Lily’s story in book 2. I loved that we get to see Kelsey both at her best and at her worst. Damn that woman can make some shit decisions. But all for the betterment of the plot.

Writing Style: I audio’d this. Loved it though.

World Building: AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH. Lovely little addition there in book 2 if you know what I mean *winky face*. This seems like is a fantasy set in the past but has a bunch of shit from now, like literature and medicine, etc. so, future??

What to pair it with: I feel a lot like Doctor Who reading these. And Miller Lite is our Doctor Night drink of choice. Though, it could also go well with a nice lager as well.

Rating: 4.5/5 amazing shots.

COMMENT DOWN BELOW: Who is your fave character from these books and why? I love them all!

Until next time, we remain forever drunkenly yours,
Sam
